About

Tosh Canty

Owner

"I started Garden Girls Wakefield out of a genuine love for plants and the outdoors. Growing up, my father taught me the value of hard work—something he lived by every day. My first job was in labour-intensive roofing, where I learned firsthand what it means to show up, push through, and take pride in doing a job well. My dad always said to work hard, and when he passed, I carried that lesson with me.

Today, that foundation drives everything I do. Garden Girls Wakefield is not just about creating beautiful outdoor spaces—it’s about passion, resilience, and empowering other women to step into hands-on work with confidence and strength."

Years spent landscaping/Gardening: 7 seasons

Margot Wilson

Maintenance Crew Leader

Margot’s love of plants runs deep, shaped by a lifelong connection to the natural world. She’s drawn to textured, unconventional plants like contorted hazel, weeping cypress, and ferns, as well as the often-overlooked beauty of lichen and moss. Her favorite flowers range from lilacs and bergamot to peonies and anything with rich, dark tones.

For Margot, gardening is more than aesthetics—it’s about connection. She finds joy working outdoors, hands in the soil, transforming spaces where plants can thrive and witnessing the cycles of growth, death, and renewal—a metaphor for life she finds inspiring.

Her journey began as a child with a garden plot from her mom and a childhood spent foraging in the forest nearby. Later, living in downtown Toronto surrounded by concrete, she felt compelled to turn her passion into a full-time path. Today, gardening is not just a hobby—it’s her way of life.

Favourite Flower:  my favorite plants are contorted hazel, weeping cypress, and all varieties of ferns. Also.... lichen and moss "slap", as the kids say...
Flowers are a little harder... lol... I like lilac, bergamot, peonies, and pretty much anything black... lol.

Grace Gallo

Maintenance Crew

Grace is a valued part-time member of the Garden Girls team, bringing skill, creativity, and a great energy to every project she’s part of. When she’s not working in the garden, she spends her time building guitars—combining her love of craftsmanship with a deep passion for music.

She spent ten years living in Nelson, where she developed a deep appreciation for the mountains and the outdoors. These days, she’s built a cozy life here with her partner, Yann, while still carrying that adventurous, hands-on spirit with her.

Grace is confident and capable with tools, and a total wizard with a chainsaw—bringing both precision and strength to the job. She’s someone you can count on to get things done right, with care and skill.

Sparkle baby sparkle.
